Freight Payments

Typically, freight is due upon the conclusion of the voyage. For most voyage charters, the end of the charter coincides with disconnection of the final transfer hose at the last discharge port. At this time, the shipowner will present his freight invoice – usually through the shipbroker – to the charterer for payment. This freight invoice will also include any changes in terms to the charter party agreement made after the initial fixture. This could include changes in discharge ports, increased freight or an augmented cargo lifting (tonnage) and other similar items.
In some circles, demurrage might be construed as freight, but typically, items such as demurrage (for example, delays related to poor pumping performance and/or restricted discharge operations) will be sorted out at a later time. Often, this can take many months. Soundtanker brokers can guide you through the intricacies of the billing, demurrage and payment processes. Call now.
